“বিশ্বব্যাপী সাংবাদিক নির্যাতনের এক ভয়াবহ প্রবণতা চলছে। আমরা এর তীব্র নিন্দা ও প্রতিবাদ জানাই। বিশেষ করে বাংলাদেশের সাংবাদিক মোঃ শিহাব উদ্দিনের মুক্তির জন্য বাংলাদেশ সরকারের কাছে আমরা জোর দাবি জানাই। আমরা আশা করি, বাংলাদেশ সরকার সংবাদপেশার মর্যাদা রক্ষায় তাকে দ্রুত মুক্তি প্রদান করবেন।
আন্তর্জাতিক প্রেসক্লাব ও পাকিস্তান জার্নালিস্ট অ্যাসোসিয়েশনের নেতৃবৃন্দ বলেন, সাংবাদিক সমাজের উপর যে কোনো রকম হয়রানি গণতন্ত্র ও মতপ্রকাশের স্বাধীনতার পরিপন্থী। তারা বিশ্বব্যাপী সাংবাদিকদের নিরাপত্তা ও পেশাগত স্বাধীনতা নিশ্চিতের আহ্বান জানান।

International Press Club and Pakistan Journalists Association Demand Unconditional Release of Journalist Shihab

Special Correspondent: The International Press Club and Pakistan Journalists Association have strongly condemned and protested the arrest and imprisonment of Md. Shihab Uddin, staff reporter of Asian Television and journalist of the national daily Matribarta, in what they described as a false case. Both organizations have demanded his immediate and unconditional release.In a joint statement, the following leaders expressed their concern:Awrangzeb Kamal, President of the International Press Club and Convener of the Bangladesh Chapter of the Pakistan Journalists Association; Mir Ishtiaq Ali (Pakistan), Chairman of the Pakistan Journalists Association and General Secretary of the International Press Club; Samaresh Roy (India), Organizational Secretary of the International Press Club; Alhaj Md. Sohag (Saudi Arabia); Shampa Das (India); Rinzin Wangchuk and Shering Dorji (Bhutan); N. Bithathron and Mangalanath Liyanarachchi (Sri Lanka); Ram Bahadur Rawal and Kashindra Sharma (Nepal); Kyaw Swe Oo and Kyaw Myo Min (Burma); Saranjeet Singh and Ahmed Zaini Kamaruzzaman (Malaysia); Mohammed Fahad Al-Harthi (Saudi Arabia); Andrei Richter, Christoph Plate, and Sohel Sarkar (United Kingdom); Dilip Roy (Kolkata); and Nurunnahar Seema (Bangladesh), among others.In the statement, Mir Ishtiaq Ali, Chairman of the Pakistan Journalists Association, said: “A dreadful trend of journalist persecution is spreading worldwide. We strongly condemn and protest against such actions. In particular, we urge the Government of Bangladesh to ensure the immediate release of journalist Md. Shihab Uddin. We hope the Bangladeshi authorities will respect the dignity of journalism and secure his freedom without delay.”The leaders of both organizations further stated that any form of harassment or intimidation of journalists goes against democracy and freedom of expression. They also called for global protection and professional independence for journalists around the world.
